Livvy Dunne recently opened up about why her relationship with Pittsburgh Pirates star Paul Skenes is such a strong fit, highlighting their unique balance and mutual support. In a candid interview, the LSU gymnast shared how they’ve learned from each other in ways that have not only enhanced their relationship but also their individual success.
“I feel like we’re like yin and yang,” Dunne told People, explaining how their different personalities complement each other perfectly. “I love doing social media and I enjoy being in the spotlight,” she said, noting that Skenes, on the other hand, doesn’t even keep social media apps on his phone. “He doesn’t like social media at all. We’re just very opposite, and I feel like it really works.”
Skenes, the top pick in the 2023 MLB Draft and a standout pitcher for the Pirates, has gained considerable fame himself, especially after an impressive rookie season that earned him an MLB All-Star spot.
Dunne shared that Skenes has helped her stay grounded and focused, holding her accountable in her rigorous athletic and public life. “Paul definitely holds me accountable, which I really appreciate,” she said. “Sometimes it’s hard to find it within yourself to do things. I feel like his work ethic is something I’ve never seen before. His advice has made me a better athlete.”

Dunne, in turn, has shared her experience with fame to help Skenes adjust to his rising stardom. “He’s now in the spotlight, which I’ve had for quite some time now, and hopefully I’m able to help him in ways like that,” she said.
Having managed her social media presence to connect with her 8 million TikTok followers and over 5 million on Instagram, Dunne has become one of the faces of the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) era, earning an estimated $9.5 million since NIL guidelines changed in 2021.
The couple, who met in Baton Rouge and went public with their relationship in August 2023, have been navigating their busy schedules while supporting each other’s goals.
Dunne often attends Skenes’ games when her gymnastics and business commitments allow, while Skenes has shown equal support for Dunne’s gymnastics career.
In her fifth year at LSU, Dunne has made an impressive impact not just in sports but also in business, landing high-profile partnerships with brands like American Eagle, Microsoft, Ulta Beauty, and Raising Cane’s.
