Taylor Swift’s reaction to seeing Patrick Mahomes go down with an injury in the Kansas City Chiefs’ 30-24 overtime win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers spoke volumes as she showed her support to his wife, Brittany.
Early in the fourth quarter, Mahomes was pressed by the Buccaneers’ defense and scrambled in hopes of keeping the play alive. In doing so, the star quarterback eventually found running back Samaje Perine in the endzone, lobbing a pass to the wide-open 29-year-old for the score.
However, on his gather step before throwing the ball to Perine, Mahomes planted his left leg awkwardly in the wet grass. Almost immediately, Mahomes began limping and jumping on his right leg as he attempted to ascertain the damage to his ankle.

Mahomes was helped off the field by trainers, being brought to the sideline to be examined by the Chiefs’ medical staff. After watching the injury, Swift immediately put her hands to her mouth in shock as Mahomes made his way to the sideline with the medical team.
As Swift and Mahomes’ wife Brittany watched the injury scare, the 34-year-old put her arm around Brittany in a touching gesture as the two awaited news of the quarterback’s status. And while Chiefs fans were left to hold their breath, Mahomes was no worse for wear as the Super Bowl champion re-entered the game for Kansas City’s next possession.
The injury didn’t seem to hamper Mahomes too badly as he was able to play for the remainder of the game, leading the Chiefs to an overtime win to improve their record to 8-0 on the season. After the win, Mahomes spoke with ESPN’s Lisa Salters and shared the extent of his injury.

“I rolled the ankle, I rolled it last week and when you roll it again it never feels good,” Mahomes told Salters, per NFL.com. “But as I got some time, it started feeling better. We have a short week, but we’ll rehab it up and I’ll be ready to go next week.”
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also told reporters after the win that he, too, was worried for his star quarterback’s health. Still, the legendary coach found time to make light of the situation despite how nerve-wracking the situation first appeared.
“When he was being carried off, that wasn’t too easy, I wasn’t sure exactly where he was going to be with it,” Reid said. “But he might have the loosest ankles in America. I mean it’s ridiculous how he can come back from those things, and then he’s mentally tough on top of that.”
Mahomes also admitted that his injury “scared” him, because he experienced a similar injury in 2023. However, the 29-year-old was able to calm himself down to the point where the pain was manageable, especially knowing the game was on the line.
“I was obviously running for the goal line, kind of had committed to running the football, and at the last second saw Samaje and so kind of awkwardly rolled the ankle a bit,” the three-time champion explained to reporters. “Definitely scary, I think it hurt more just because it was the same ankle I rolled last week.
“So scared me a little bit, but once I took my breath and kind of calmed down a little bit, it ended up not being too bad.” Mahomes and the Chiefs are back in action on Nov. 10 against the Denver Broncos.
