Jake Paul is set to step back into the ring this Friday night with a sizeable increase to his weight and square off against former undisputed heavyweight world champion, Mike Tyson.

Since his professional debut in 2020, Paul has made quite a name for himself in the boxing world, boasting an impressive record of 10-1. The 27-year-old has already claimed victories over several big names in the sport, including Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz, and Ben Askren.

Although he only turned pro four years ago, ‘The Problem Child’ had already cut his teeth on the amateur scene. Two years prior to his first professional fight, Paul went head-to-head with KSI’s brother, Deji Olatunji, in a match that was part of the undercard for KSI vs Logan Paul.

In his white-collar debut, Paul tipped the scales at 181.9lb, while Deji weighed in at 174.4lb. Despite the significant weight difference, KSI’s younger sibling put up a strong fight before ultimately being defeated in the fifth round.

Following this, ‘The Problem Child’ took a two-year hiatus from the ring to train for his professional debut against social media sensation AnEsonGib. The much-anticipated face-off between the two stars was held at cruiserweight, with Paul weighing in at 191.8lb and Gib slightly lighter at 188lb. It took just over two minutes for ‘The Problem Child’ to secure his first professional win.

Since then, Paul’s weight has fluctuated between 186 and 193lbs for his fights. It wasn’t until he faced Tommy Fury last year that Paul entered the ring at a career-low 184lb. In a thrilling back-and-forth bout, ‘TNT’ narrowly won via split decision.

When ‘The Problem Child’ made his comeback to the ring after this defeat, he weighed in at 185lb for his fight against Diaz. His highest weigh-in was 199.8lb for his match against Ryan Bourland. However, his forthcoming face-off with Tyson will be a heavyweight bout.

Jake Paul has come a long way

This Friday’s showdown will feature the pair in a professional eight-two-minute round format – a departure from the standard three-minute rounds. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has already sanctioned the fight. Both fighters will wear 14-ounce gloves, which are heavier than the standard gloves. and Tyson were set to throw down in July, but ‘Iron Mike’ had to bow out due to an ulcer flare-up.

As an indication of where he’s at, before the bout was called off Paul revealed he was walking around at a hefty 230 pounds, way above his usual fighting weight. On his podcast in May, ‘The Problem Child’ expressed his shock: “It’s just like shocking to people that that is how much I weigh.

“I think just because normally I’m fighting at 200 and walking around at 210. It’s weird to me that I’m weighing 230. But since this was noodling after my last fight I’m just getting to eat as much as possible and it turns out my body carries this weight super well.”

Paul didn’t stop there; he delved into his plans for growth and training tactics, adding, “I’m only growing. I think I’ll get up to 240 and probably cut down so I’m like way faster. But if I’m training for this camp – and camp hasn’t started – but if I’m training in this camp at 240 and then I cut down to 220 it’s basically like I had a 20lbs weight vest on for the whole entire camp. So my muscles are going to be so much stronger and that speed will come through.”

However, this time, the 27 year old has shared his plans to be a bit lighter for Friday’s fight. In a chat with the Hollywood Reporter, when questioned about his weight, Paul disclosed that he is currently tipping the scales at around 216 pounds and anticipates being 220 on the fight day.

He also confessed that he expects his forthcoming opponent to weigh significantly more. “Tyson will probably be 235”, he stated.
