Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark has admitted that the only downside to life in the WNBA is playing during the summer – as she confessed she missed out on honing her golf game during that time.

The former Iowa college prodigy successfully made the transition to the professional stage during her maiden season with the Fever following a record-breaking campaign. Setting new all-time hauls for single-season and single-game assists in the WNBA, Clark delivered on her billing having been selected as the No. 1 pick in the 2024 Draft.

The 22-year-old was duly rewarded for her efforts with the coveted Rookie of the Year prize to cap off a landmark year, beating Angel Reese to the award. However, the triumphant ace has admitted that she does like to turn her attention to another sporting passion during the off-season.

After Indiana’s season came to a close with in the first round of the playoffs against the Connecticut Sun, she confessed she was looking forward to playing golf during her time off. Now, the youngster has spoke about her love for her long-standing hobby during a conversation with ESPN’s Monica McNutt and WNBA legend Sue Bird.

Everybody thinks I’m way better than I actually am so … The only downside about the WNBA is during the summer that’s when you golf. So, my golf game is having to take a backseat to basketball.”

The superstar is staying true to her word having said at the end of the WNBA campaign: “I’m gonna play some golf. That’s what I’m gonna do until it becomes too cold in Indiana. I’ll become a professional golfer. It’s definitely different for me. I feel like basketball has really consumed my life for a year, so I feel like it’ll be good for me to reflect back on everything that’s happened.

“I feel like I didn’t even have time to really reflect on my college career because it ended so fast, then I came here and was trying to give everything I could to this team and kind of move on to put all that behind me and help this team get back to the playoffs.

She continued: “So I feel like taking some time to myself and really enjoying that, reflecting back. You know, it was special. There were a lot of things that this group accomplished that a lot of people probably didn’t think was possible. It’ll definitely be a little weird for me over the course of the first couple of weeks, then I’m sure I’ll get bored and pick up a basketball again.”

Reflecting on earning the coveted Rookie of the Year gong after a memorable first season in Indianapolis, she said: “I am incredibly honored to be named Rookie of the Year.

“But more than that, I am grateful to everyone that supported me throughout this past season — my family and friends, my teammates, the Fever organization and everyone that cheered us on all season. I am so proud of what we accomplished and so excited for what the future holds.”
