The Minnesota Vikings received the possible news regarding Christian Darrisaw and the injury the star suffered.
Late in the second quarter of the Vikings’ 30-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Kevin O’Connell elected to run a play to get more yardage instead of just letting the clock run out to end the half. As the play developed, a Rams player fell onto the back of Darrisaw’s legs, forcing the star to crumple to the field.
Darrisaw remained on the field as the Vikings’ medical staff tended to him. Eventually, he was helped off the field with an injury and it was soon revealed that the 25-year-old would miss the rest of the contest with an injury as a result of O’Connell’s play call.

On Friday, the full extent of Darrisaw’s injury was revealed, with O’Connell announcing that the star would undergo season-ending surgery on his injured left knee. Speaking to reporters, the Vikings’ head coach explained his disappointment regarding Darrisaw’s season-ending injury.
“I was holding out hope last night that the imaging would reveal a less significant injury, but unfortunately that is not the case,” O’Connell said, per CBS Sports. “He did sustain a significant knee injury to his left knee, and it will require season-ending surgery. He will go on injured reserve today.
“We’ll determine the best course of action in regards to the procedure that will repair the injury. I know CD will be right back where he was this year, which was one of the best left tackles in football, playing at a really high level.”

With Darrisaw out of the rest of the season, the criticism O’Connell faced in the immediate aftermath of the play is even more resounding. Shortly after Darrisaw’s injury, fans on social media called out the head coach for a seemingly useless play, which ultimately resulted in the injury of the Vikings’ stars.
“That’s brutal,” one comment began. “Darrisaw has been arguably the best Tackle in football. On top of that the play should have never existed, if they didn’t get called for a holding they were going to take knees instead of running an actual play.”
That was just one of many comments criticizing the 39-year-old for his call, with fans sharing the same sentiment throughout the night. Now that Darrisaw is out for the foreseeable future, it appears the situation in Minnesota might begin to turn into a nightmare.
After starting the season 5-0, the Vikings have lost their last two games to the Detroit Lions and the Rams, respectively, with teams seemingly figuring out the offense. What made Thursday night’s loss to the Rams more heartwrenching was the fact that it appeared as if the officials missed a face-mask penalty, which led to a sack and safety, sealing the game.
Tra Blake, a referee, told reporters that a flag was not thrown because the officials did not see an infraction on the play. “On that play, the quarterback was facing the opposite direction from me so I did not have a good look at it,” said per The Athletic.
“I did not have a look, and I did not see the face mask being pulled, obviously. The umpire had players between him and the quarterback, so he did not get a look at it. He was blocked out as well. So that was the thing. We did not see it, so we couldn’t call it. We couldn’t see it.”
