Any reference to the Dallas Cowboys has been removed from Micah Parsons’ social media, and the defensive star has written ‘TBD’ as his NFL future remains uncertain
Star pass rusher Micah Parsons has removed all Dallas Cowboys-related posts from his X account, and his bio now reads “TBD” as he awaits a new contract.
The fifth-year linebacker is awaiting a blockbuster extension and formally requested a trade on Aug. 1 after failing to resolve with the Cowboys. Franchise owner Jerry Jones claimed that it was a negotiation tactic at the time, and told Dallas fans “not to lose sleep” over the holdout.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer also claimed that he expects Parsons to play in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles, even though he hasn’t participated in training camp. However, Parsons has now distanced himself from the Cowboys on social media, 14 days before the NFL season starts.
On Thursday night, Parsons changed his profile picture to a Bible verse and removed all Cowboys affiliation from his profile. The verse read: “Even if I fall, I will rise; the Lord is my light.”
Parsons also changed his bio, which now reads: “Penn State 2021. TBD.” While Parsons continues to list his college, his NFL team is now ‘to be determined.’
The social media update came hours after Jones was interviewed by former Cowboys star Michael Irvin, who asked for an update on Parsons’ situation. Jones claimed that he had agreed to a deal with Parsons and agreed to make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, but his agent declined.
“Nobody appreciates Micah Parsons more than the Cowboys or me,” Jones said on Irvin’s YouTube channel. “Nobody has ever offered him more money than I have to play football. Period.”
Jones then added: “When we wanted to send the (contract) details to the agent, the agent told us to stick it up our a–. Mike and I talked, and then we were going to send it over to the agent.
“We had our agreements on terms, amount, guarantees, and everything. We were going to send it over to the agent, and the agent said, ‘Don’t bother because we’ve got all that to negotiate.’
“Well, I’d already negotiated, I’d already moved off my mark in several areas. So the issue, very frankly, is we’ve had the negotiation in my mind, and the agent is trying to get his nose in it right now, and trying to come in there and improve on the mark we’d already set.”
Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, denied using that language when speaking with ESPN analyst and former NFL player Ryan Clark. Earlier this month, Jones said the Cowboys were in “good shape” with Parsons regarding an extension, but nothing has transpired.
The Cowboys face heading into their season opener against the Eagles without Parsons, which was already a concern due to his lack of participation. Parsons is set to earn $24 million this season, after the Cowboys picked up the fifth-year option in his rookie contract.
It’s believed that Parsons is holding out for $40 million annually, a price that the Pittsburgh Steelers have paid to retain fellow linebacker T.J. Watt. The Steelers and Watt agreed to a three-year, $123 million extension, with $108 million guaranteed.
