Three lions engage in an inconclusive battle on a road running through a national park in South Africa.
A series of photos by Justin Thorne, a visitor to Kruger National Park, South Africa, shows two male lions fighting with each other next to the road in the park, Sun on February 17 reported.
Thorne predicts that these two male lions are fighting over a territorial dispute. One of the lions opened its mouth to bite the other lion’s back, showing how fierce the fight was.
When the battle reached its climax, the third lion leaping suddenly appeared from behind the trees and quickly joined the battle. All three lions use their strength and claws to launch blows at the opponent.
Fewer male lions survive to adulthood than female lions due to disputes over territory and mating rights. Kruger National Park is one of the largest protected areas in Africa, home to lions, jaguars, rhinos, elephants, buffalo and hundreds of other mammals.
