As Travis Kelce remains silent on his decision regarding a potential 13th NFL season, Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach has provided the strongest indication yet that the star tight end is planning to return.
Following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the 35-year-old tight end was noncommittal about his future, telling fans on his New Heights podcast that he planned to “take some time to figure it out.” With speculation swirling about a possible retirement, many wondered if Kelce had played his final game in a Chiefs uniform.
However, during his appearance at the NFL Combine on Tuesday, Veach shut down those rumors, confidently stating that the team fully expects Kelce back for the 2025 season.
“We’re excited to get him back,” Veach said. “How we left at the end of the season is that he was fired up. He has one more year under contract.”
Veach continued, emphasizing that Kelce still has the drive to compete at the highest level.
“I still think he has that fire and desire to play. As far as I’m concerned, there is no deadline. We left it as he’d be back, and we’re excited to get him back. And get him going.”

Andy Reid Urges Kelce to Take His Time
While Veach sounded confident in Kelce’s return, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was a bit more reserved when discussing the situation. Reid, who spoke with Kelce during the team’s exit interviews, suggested that he encouraged his star tight end to take some time away from football before making a decision.
“I told him to get out of town and relax,” Reid said, implying that Kelce deserves time to recharge before making any commitments.

Kelce’s Future: Another Run or Time to Walk Away?
Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion and one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, has little left to prove. However, despite his age and a grueling 12 seasons in the league, he has remained one of the most dominant and productive players at his position.
This past season, Kelce played a pivotal role in Kansas City’s playoff success, particularly in the Super Bowl run alongside Patrick Mahomes. With one year left on his contract, the Chiefs seem to believe he’s got at least one more season in him.
While Kelce has been enjoying the offseason with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, and traveling after the Super Bowl, all signs now point to him suiting up for another shot at a fourth ring with the Chiefs.
Until Kelce officially announces his decision, the speculation will continue—but if Veach’s comments are anything to go by, fans should expect to see No. 87 back on the field when the 2025 season kicks off.
