Daniel Jones has purportedly set his sights on signing with a “playoff contender” after being cut by the New York Giants – with the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings both emerging as potential suitors.
The quarterback signed a lucrative four-year contract at MetLife Stadium worth $160 million just last year but was released from that deal at his own request on Friday (Nov. 22). The 27-year-old had been benched in favor of Tommy Devito, even falling behind back-up Drew Lock in the pecking order this month.
Now, it appears that Jones is wasting no time in weighing up his next steps after his six-year run with the Giants came to an abrupt end. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on X, his intention is to see out the season on a playoff contending team as he sets his sights on having involvement in “big games”.

The journalist has claimed that the events of Week 12 will be a factor in Jones’ decision over his next destination, with the Ravens and the Vikings “likely” contenders for his signature. The man known as “Danny Dimes” is also expected to sign one-year deal with any hypothetical suitor.
Speaking about how the season has played out up to this point, Jones has said: “Of course, this season has been disappointing for all and, of course, I wish I could have done more. I’m 100 percent accountable for my part. I did not play well enough, consistently enough, to help the team get the results.”
Giants owner John Mara confirmed that Jones had expressed his desire to depart, with his wishes eventually granted. Following the parting of ways, he said: “Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him. We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team.

“Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. His handling of this situation yesterday exemplifies just that. We are all disappointed in how things have worked out. We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him. We wish him nothing but the best in the future.”
Meanwhile, stating Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito previously gave his verdict on how Jones has fared at MetLife Stadium in recent times, saying of his ex-colleague’s struggles: “Probably part of it was injuries. Last year, [Jones] got dinged up a bunch during the games, probably wasn’t fully healthy at all times.
“But was still going out there and giving it his all. Some of the times probably wasn’t able to get the best version of himself out there. Probably isn’t fair to him but … when you go out there to play, you go out there to play.”
After Jones was benched recently, New York coach Brian Daboll insisted their relationship remained strong. He said of the QB: “Got a lot of respect for him. Again, not the way we wanted it to turn out by any stretch, but he’s been nothing but a pro since I’ve been here with him. He’s a great young man.”
