Colorado Buffaloes sensation Travis Hunter is being hailed as the next big thing – with some predicting he’ll take the NFL by storm just like Michael Jordan did in the NBA.
The 21-year-old rookie is already causing a stir and is tipped to be a hot commodity when the draft kicks off in April. His jaw-dropping skills at both cornerback and wide receiver have been on full display, especially during Buffaloes’ crushing win over Texas Tech where he racked up a school record of 161 plays.
With his dual roles on the Buffaloes’ defense and offense, college football commentator and Fox Sports pundit Joel Klatt is convinced the youngster has got something extraordinary. On The Joel Klatt Show, he said: “I think a lot of us do that when we watch LeBron play, or those of us that got to watch Michael Jordan play.

“I’m sure this is how people felt when they watched Mickey Mantle play, or how I felt when I got to stand there when I was a minor league baseball player and watch Barry Bonds take batting practice, or when we watched Tiger Woods hit a golf ball, you know?
“Like, there are things that we just know we’re never going to see again. And this is one of those things. Travis Hunter is one of one, period.”
In a recent triumph over Texas, Hunter secured nine receptions for 99 yards and a touchdown. His defensive stats may not have shined as bright, but his presence was felt in 85 of the total 87 snaps.

Hunter’s burgeoning reputation has seen him likened to all-time greats of US sports. NFL veteran-turned-elite quarterback mentor Jordan Palmer has gone so far as to suggest he could be a “once in a lifetime player.”
He said: “I can’t tell you what he has. We think competing is like finishing a play or wanting to win, leaving it all on the field. That’s the more traditional way that we evaluate… It’s not that he’s playing every play that’s the most impressive piece to me. It’s clearly that he is trying to play every single play.”
The accolades are already piling up for Hunter. In 2023, he gained All-American status and clinched the Paul Hornung Award, confirming him as the nation’s most versatile player. It was the first time since 1961 that a Colorado player achieved both All-American and academic All-American honors simultaneously.
