Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs cruised to a 29-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Netflix’s slightly glitchy Christmas Day production to improve to 15-1 and clinch the top seed in the AFC.
However, the quarterback wasn’t quite in a celebratory mood postgame – when offered cake by the Netflix NFL team, Mahomes humbly rejected it while emphasizing that he’s “watching” his weight until the playoffs. Tight end Travis Kelce, however, didn’t hesitate before diving into the red velvet cake shaped like a football.
Mahomes won the game’s MVP after completing 29 of his 38 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns, his first with 300+ yards and 3+ touchdowns in 2024. During his breakout 2018 season, the Chiefs signal caller accomplished the feat seven times.
Mahomes and Kelce were awarded Santa coats before Netflix reporter Stacey Dales prepared to offer the famous Kansas City duo yet more gifts.
“We do have another gift for you,” Dales said “These are our Netflix custom Christmas game balls, and they’re all yours, fellas. So, I’d like you to go ahead, and pick them up. And they are a little bit heavy, but you can open them up.”
“I’m a little bit scared,” Mahomes answered before opening up the ball to reveal a cake. “Oh its a red velvet cake,” Kelce said with a beaming smile.

Before Dales could ask if Kelce was interested in having any, the big Kansas City tight end started devouring the cake. Mahomes did not follow suit.
“Im watching my weight until [the] playoffs,” the former NFL MVP admitted. Kelce disagreed: “Its more pushing it away than pulling it in, as coach [Andy] Reid would say,” he said with food in his mouth.
Mahomes eventually decided what he would do with the cake. “Coach Reid is ready for it, Im [going to] take it to him.”
With a first-round bye already secured, the Chiefs could opt to rest both Mahomes and Kelce next week against the Denver Broncos.
Meanwhile, the loss for Pittsburgh means the Steelers can no longer control their own destiny for the AFC North. They will need to beat the Cincinnati Bengals last week and hope the Baltimore Ravens drop one of their last two games.
